Your personal tax document checklist
The slips, receipts and records most people need before a personal tax appointment.
Start with your tax slips
Slips report your income to you and the CRA. Most arrive by the end of February, and many are also available in CRA My Account.
- T4 — employment income
- T4A — pension, retirement, annuity and other income
- T5 — investment income such as interest and dividends
- T3 — trust income, including many mutual funds
- T4E — Employment Insurance benefits
- T5008 — securities you sold
Gather receipts for deductions and credits
These can lower the tax you pay, so it's worth collecting them through the year.
- RRSP and FHSA contribution receipts
- Medical and dental expenses
- Charitable donations
- Childcare expenses
- Moving expenses, if you moved for work or school
- Tuition slips (T2202)
Don't forget these
A few extra items help make sure nothing is missed.
- Last year's Notice of Assessment
- Rental income and expense records
- Self-employment income and expenses
- Details of any foreign income or property
Keep it safe
Please don't email your slips or SIN. After you book, we'll share a secure way to send your documents.
